Custom sheer curtains soften a room without closing it off. They filter bright Los Angeles sunlight into something warm and diffused, maintain the sense of space and connection to the outdoors, and add a layer of daytime privacy without blocking the view. At Dom Decor Studio, we design and install custom sheers throughout Los Angeles — from light linen sheers in Santa Monica beach homes to layered silk-blend sheers in Beverly Hills formal rooms.

    Two Heading Styles

We offer custom sheers in two heading styles to suit different aesthetics. Custom Ripplefold Sheers create a continuous, even wave along a ceiling-mounted track — the more contemporary and popular choice for modern and transitional interiors. Custom Europleat Sheers use a three-finger pleat at the top of the panel and hang from rings on a decorative rod — better suited to classic and traditional rooms.

    Fabric Options

Sheer fabrics range from nearly transparent voiles to heavier linen-weave textiles that provide meaningful daytime privacy. The key variable is opacity: lighter fabrics create an airy, luminous effect; heavier open-weave linens add texture and privacy while still allowing abundant daylight. We offer samples from our sheer fabric library so you can evaluate each option in your home before ordering.

Layering Sheers with Drapes or Shades

Sheers work best as part of a layered window treatment system. A sheer panel behind a custom drapery panel allows full light control: sheers during the day for filtered light, drapes closed at night for darkness and insulation. Sheers can also be layered in front of roller shades or roman shades to add softness and texture to an otherwise minimal window treatment.

    Care and Longevity

Sheer fabrics are delicate and should be handled carefully. Most can be gently steam-cleaned in place. Some voile and linen fabrics are machine washable on a gentle cycle — we confirm care instructions at the time of fabric selection. UV-resistant sheer fabrics are available for south- and west-facing rooms in Los Angeles.

    faq

Sheers are made from lightweight, semi-transparent fabrics that allow diffused light to pass through. Drapes use heavier, opaque or semi-opaque fabrics for more light control and privacy. Sheers are typically used as a first layer for daytime softness, with drapes added as a second layer for evening privacy.

Yes. Sheers on a motorized track are a popular choice in Los Angeles homes with large windows. The lightweight fabric operates smoothly and quietly on motorized systems compatible with Lutron and Somfy.

During daylight hours, most sheer fabrics provide meaningful privacy because the interior is darker than the exterior. At night, when interior lights are on, sheers alone do not provide privacy. A secondary layer — drapes or roller shades — is recommended for evening privacy.

Linen-blend and polyester voile sheers are popular in Los Angeles because they resist fading and perform well in bright sunlight. For rooms with intense western or southern exposure, we recommend UV-stabilized sheer fabrics.

Yes. Layering sheers over roller shades or roman shades is an excellent way to add softness and texture to a minimal window treatment. The sheer panels are typically mounted at ceiling height while the shade sits inside the window frame.
