Custom natural woven shades bring texture, warmth, and an organic quality to any window. Made from bamboo, jute, seagrass, and abaca, they introduce natural materials that complement both coastal and desert-influenced Los Angeles interiors. At Dom Decor Studio, we fabricate woven shades in two mounting configurations to suit different windows and aesthetics.
Two Mounting Options
The mounting style significantly changes how a woven shade looks and performs. Custom Outside Mount Woven Shades are installed above and beyond the window frame, covering the entire casing and controlling exactly how much wall the shade occupies. Custom Inside Mount Woven Shades sit entirely within the window frame, exposing the casing and creating a minimal, architectural look. Both options are available in the same material and color library.
Natural Materials
We source woven shade materials from sustainable suppliers. Bamboo is our most popular choice — it is durable, light-responsive, and comes in a wide range of weave tightnesses that determine opacity. Jute has a softer, more relaxed feel and suits casual coastal rooms. Seagrass and abaca offer finer weaves with a polished, refined quality suited to more formal spaces.
Light Control
Natural woven shades filter light rather than blocking it. The weave density determines how much light enters: open weaves allow more light and less privacy; tighter weaves provide more privacy with softer light. For complete darkness, we recommend pairing woven shades with a blackout roller shade or a drapery layer.
Motorization
Natural woven shades can be motorized with the same systems used for roller shades. The natural fiber rolls operate smoothly on motorized rollers — particularly practical for high windows or skylights in Los Angeles homes where manual operation would be difficult.
Care and Longevity
Natural woven shades require minimal maintenance. Occasional dusting with a soft brush or vacuum attachment keeps the weave clean. Direct water should be avoided as it can warp natural fibers. The dry Los Angeles climate is actually ideal for natural woven shades — low humidity prevents the expansion and warping that affects natural materials in more humid regions.

What materials are natural woven shades made from?
Natural woven shades are made from plant-based fibers including bamboo, jute, seagrass, and abaca. Each material has a distinct texture, weave pattern, and opacity level. Bamboo is the most popular for its balance of durability and refined appearance.
Do natural woven shades provide privacy?
Woven shades filter light and reduce visibility but do not provide complete privacy, especially at night when interior lights are on. Tighter weave patterns offer more daytime privacy. For full privacy, we recommend layering woven shades with a privacy roller shade or drapery panel.
What is the difference between inside mount and outside mount woven shades?
Inside mount shades sit within the window frame for a clean, architectural look that exposes the window casing. Outside mount shades install above and beyond the frame, covering more of the wall and creating a larger visual presence. Outside mount also works better on windows with shallow depth.
Can natural woven shades be motorized?
Yes. Woven shade rolls operate smoothly on motorized systems. Motorization is practical for high windows, skylights, and rooms where multiple shades need to be operated simultaneously.
Are natural woven shades suitable for Los Angeles homes?
Yes. The dry Los Angeles climate is ideal for natural woven shades — low humidity prevents natural fibers from expanding and warping. Natural materials also complement the warm, organic design aesthetic common in coastal and hillside Los Angeles homes.
